They have an interesting characteristic known as “reverse thermal loading.” This means that the flowers have a unique ability to regulate their temperature and prevent overheating. During hot sunny days, the flowers of Rhododendron fauriei curl their petals inward to reduce exposure to direct sunlight, thus preventing excessive heat buildup. This adaptive feature helps to protect the delicate reproductive structures of the flowers, ensuring their successful pollination and reproduction even in warm climates.
