An interesting fact about nutmeg is that it comes from the seed of a tropical evergreen tree called Myristica fragrans, which is native to the Spice Islands of Indonesia. Nutmeg has been used for centuries as a spice, a medicine, and even a hallucinogen in large doses.
In addition, nutmeg contains a compound called myristicin, which is responsible for its psychoactive effects. Consuming large amounts of nutmeg can cause hallucinations, dizziness, nausea, and even death. Therefore, it’s important to use nutmeg in moderation as a spice and not as a recreational drug.
Furthermore, in the Middle Ages, nutmeg was a very valuable spice and was often used as a form of currency. It was so valuable that in the 17th century, the Dutch traded the island of Manhattan to the British in exchange for the island of Run, which was the world’s only source of nutmeg at the time.
