The bark, leaves, and fruits of the plant have been used to treat a variety of ailments, including fever, diarrhea, and rheumatism. In fact, the plant’s name, “wayfaring,” is derived from its historical use as a medicinal plant for travelers, who would often eat the fruits to help alleviate gastrointestinal problems. Additionally, the wayfaring shrub has been used in traditional European folklore and mythology, where it was believed to have protective and magical powers.
